"Treatment Matters More Than Silhouette"

Koji Kamiya sums up his own method in one line: treatment matters more than silhouette. He does not draw a shape and then find cloth for it. He starts by working out how a fabric will be bleached, dyed, abraded and repaired, and the shape follows.

That is why everything in Kamiya Fall/Winter 2026 looks like it had a life before it reached the buyer.

Koji Kamiya was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1995. He left school and started working in Osaka, at a vintage store called Ako, whose owner he calls the most influential person in his life since adolescence. From there he went to train at Maison Mihara Yasuhiro, where he says he learned how a brand gets built and how a strategy gets made.

He then joined the streetwear label MYne, under the SOSU company, becoming its director in 2018. In 2023 he renamed it KAMIYA, after himself. His reason was plain: once your own name is on the brand, you cannot escape it no matter what goes wrong. The first collection was called NEW JACK, after New Jack Swing, and the phrase means newcomer.

What Kamiya is actually interested in is process. He works with finishing mills in Okayama and Kojima to develop new damage and aging treatments every season: bleaching and dyeing a garment twice so the colour gains depth, or pulling yarn out during knitting so holes appear exactly where he wants them. His references are motorcycles, old blues musicians and Japanese bushido, mixed with the skateboarding and hip-hop he grew up on.

Clothes that begin with a question about how to treat the cloth, not about what shape to cut. That is where Kamiya sits apart from most streetwear.

The first drop at Onion shows that thinking clearest in the 14oz wide flared jeans, heavily aged and repaired by hand, built out from the Wide Bootcut Repaired Jeans of the 26SS season. And in the tee, knitted from a jersey made specifically for it and only then worn down. The beanie and the cap are made with CA4LA in Japan.

Putting your own name on the label is a way of saying you are not going anywhere.

Treatment matters more than silhouette. That one line explains the whole brand.
