## A Name That Is Just an Intersection

There is an artist named Ben Miller who does not use brushes. He uses a fly rod. He ties an artificial fly to the end of the line, dips it in paint, and casts it at the canvas. He calls it fly-cast painting. What comes out is a river painted with the river's own tools.

The most expensive piece in this drop is his work, and it is where South2 West8 Fall/Winter 2026 begins.

South2 West8 is not named after a concept. It is named after a street crossing. Sapporo is laid out on a grid and addresses are given as coordinates. The first Nepenthes branch opened in February 2003 at the western end of the Tanuki-koji arcade in Chuo Ward, near the crossing called South 2 West 8. The label born alongside that shop took the same name.

Behind it is Keizo Shimizu, who founded Nepenthes in 1988. He chose the quiet end of the street on purpose, believing a customer should have to go looking for the shop. What he wanted was a field jacket he had designed himself, and the concept he started from was tenkara: the old Japanese method with only a rod, a line and a fly. No reel, no accessories. In 2015 the brand moved properly into stream fishing and added waders, rods and jackets. Its other root is the Heavy-duty Ivy that Shimizu found in the 1970s. No trend chasing, no living in the archive.

FW26 is the season the brand walked furthest from the water. Cargo-pocket jackets, brushed cotton shirts, self-belted pants, footwear now designed in house, velour tracksuits, insulated winter jackets. None of the old work was dropped. The first drop landing at Onion is still full-spec fishing wear: the River Trek in a 3-layer waterproof breathable cotton ripstop, the Bush Trek in printed heavyweight mesh with a rod holder, a rib collar quilted coat, a piping jacket in leopard paisley jacquard fleece, the Belted C.S. Pant in nylon taslan, and the Jungle Hat in paraffin cotton. All of it made in Japan.

> A jacket built for wading and a jacket built for the city do not have to be two different jackets. That is the heart of this collection.

One intersection in Sapporo and a stream nobody can name, turned into clothes people wear walking around Bangkok. Twenty-three years on, the address has not changed.
