## "Familiar Isn't the Same as Simple"

In Jacques Tati's Playtime (1967), the workers of Paris wear coats, shirts, and trousers every day, without ever questioning why a lapel sits where it does, why a seam runs that way, why the pocket lands there. Workwear occupies the role of a formula: recognised by everyone, examined by almost no one.

Caveat SS26: Formulaic Expressions asks you to look again.

Caveat is a Thai brand that treats pattern as its primary design language. Since Collection 01, the work has revolved around building silhouette through precise pattern manipulation: curvature in seams, structural panel construction, the physical behaviour of fabric used as a shaping tool.

All of that carries forward into Spring/Summer 2026. The difference is that it goes unseen. Where Collection 01 made its technique visible, Collection 02 hides it inside familiar forms: a coat, a trouser, a striped shirt. The construction hasn't simplified. It's been absorbed.

The collection also raises a question of persona: how a garment's finishing can carry the trace of someone's life. Bio-washing and hand distressing are used not to make things look old, but worn. Fabrics that have developed surface and patina through care. A garment that already looks like it belongs to someone.

Formulaic Expressions doesn't ask what you wear. It asks what your wardrobe foundation conceals.
